[EN] Service Pack 3 for SharePoint 2007 & WSS 3.0 is available

LOGO__SharePoint2007In the same time as last Cumulative Updates for SharePoint 2010 Family / 25th October 2011 (I wrote about it in previous post) Microsoft delivered Service Pack 3 for Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 and Windows SharePoint Services 3.0. Again we should wait few weeks before we “start to think to instal it”. After month, we can implement in testing environment – as always before production, isn’t?

Doesn’t matter which software we use, always we must start from WSS. The Update RoadMap is very simple in standard environment (just only in English language version). It’s a little bit more complicated if we have more languages inside SharePoint Farm (for me is natural to use English, Polish and Spanish versions). Let’s look shortly – let’s snapshooting? – for roadmap (based on Microsoft suggestions):

for: Windows SharePoint Services 3.0
Step 1: Download and read the white paper Understanding updates for SharePoint Products and Technologies. [LINK]
Step 2: Read the article about deploying software updates for Windows SharePoint Services 3.0. [LINK]
Step 3: Download and install the update for Windows SharePoint Services 3.0.
Step 4: Run the SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration wizard.
Step 5: (Optional) Download and install Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Language Pack.

for: Office SharePoint Server 2007
Step 1: Download and read the white paper Understanding updates for SharePoint Products and Technologies. [LINK]
Step 2: Read the article about deploying software updates for SharePoint Server 2007. [LINK]
Step 3: Download and install the update for Windows SharePoint Services 3.0.
Step 4: Download and install the update for SharePoint Server 2007.
Step 5: Run the SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration wizard.
Step 6: (Optional) Download and install Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Language Pack.
Step 7: (Optional) Download and install SharePoint Server 2007 Language Pack.

I should add three additional “pre-steps”:
Step -2: Announce maintaenance window for all users minimum one week before
Step -1: Backup FULL all Your SharePoint Environment (application, databases, third part solutions)
Step 0: Re-Announce maintenance windows minimum 24 hours before

First two steps are absolutely necessary for”niewbie”. All “optional” steps are necessary for any languages hich will be used in our environment. And if You have more than one Front End Web Server – You must install all updates on every servers, before You end maintenance windows.
