[EN] New Certification for SQL Server 2012

LOGO__SQLServer2012Microsoft SQL Server 1212 (better known as CodeName ‘DENALI’) will coming. Slowly, yes but irrevocably. Then, as SQL Server amateurs, professionals, administrators, developers, architects we should start to think about certification for this new version of our database environment.

SQL Server will provide many changes: views, functions, features and so on. And for certification (in this post) and licensing (future post) too. So, what most important news we know:

1. We know about seven exams in total SQL Server 2012 software:

Querying Microsoft SQL Server
| Microsoft Training Course: 10774 | Microsoft Prometric Exam: 70-461
Administering a Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Database
| Microsoft Training Course: 10775 | Microsoft Prometric Exam: 70-462
Building Data Warehouses with Microsoft SQL Server 2012
| Microsoft Training Course: 10777 | Microsoft Prometric Exam: 70-463
Developing a Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Database
| Microsoft Training Course: 10776 | Microsoft Prometric Exam: 70-464
Designing Database Solutions for SQL Server 2012
| Microsoft Training Course: 10778 | Microsoft Prometric Exam: 70-465
Implementing Data Models and Reports with Microsoft SQL Server 2012
| Microsoft Training Course in unknown now | Egzamin: 70-466
Designing Business Intelligence Solutions with Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Platform
| Microsoft Training Course in unknown now | Egzamin: 70-467

2. Only two certification ways:

SQL DEV/BI: SQL Server “Denali” Business Intelligence
* Writing queries with Transact-SQL (T-SQL)
* Building Data Warehouses with Microsoft SQL Server 2012
* Designing Business Intelligence Solutions with SQL Server 2012 Platform
* Implementing Data Models and Reports with Microsoft SQL Server 2012

SQL DBA: dla SQL Server “Denali” Database Professionals
* Writing queries with Transact-SQL (T-SQL)
* Implementing, Configuring, and Maintaining Microsoft® SQL Server®
* Building, Supporting, and Developing Databases for Microsoft® SQL Server®
* Designing Database Solutions for Microsoft® SQL Server®

3. For some of us bad (for other not) new idea like Re-Certification. If You get any of IT-Pro Level Certification (all  four MCTS exams  in one of two certification tracks), You must will be re-certified after three years!

Good to know: any MCTS certificate = one Microsoft Training Course = one Training Kit = one exam

Is something good more? Based on information from Born To Learn blog:

  • More community involvement in identifying the skills to be tested
  • Higher expectations of skill level and experience for the successful candidate
  • More direct focus on core skills such as querying and on business context
