Third weekend of March was under SQLSaturday No 105 event influence. I heard about this event few months ago and of course sent my submission. Hovewer my sessions proposals was not focus on SQL Server 2012, and has not been choosen. Ok, fine, next time should be better. I want to go to Dublin anyway. It was my first visit in Ireland, and in Dublin and not last one. Below You can find some of my words about this weekend.
I found really nice hostel in the center of Dublin. Just one minute from O’Connell Bridge. It was my best choice from last few trips. Nice, friendly, quiet, with excellent breakfast, free internet and awesome staff. I can recommend this place for everyone who want to go to Dublin (just use HostelBookers site and find Ashfield House City Centre). All Thursday and half of Friday I just walking, taking photos, talking, visiting. Not all of course – it is impossible, but a lot of good / no fantastic places, like: Trinity College and Book of Kells, Guinness Storehouse, The Old Jameson Distillery and some museums. Of course I found bookshop and cafe of Sinn Féin – it was important place for this trip – I looked for “The Spirit of Freedom”. Some pictures from my sightseeing time in Dublin are available on my FlickR Profile.
Friday Evening I spent with many of my old friends from SQL Family like: Carmel, Neil, Mark, Klaus, Andre, Kevin, Christina, Karla and many new: Sandra, Marco, Rodney, Bob, The Second Bob and more. Over three hours on the boat, wchich moved somewhere and (fortunatelly) back. Dinner, Friends, Wine, Guinness, Photos. Talks, Elephant Talks, Only Talks. SQL, Events, Community, Speaking. Ireland, England, United States, Poland, germany, Austria, Italy, The Netherlands, Canada. And more, more, more. On the back trip we found stowaway in person of Chris Testa O’Neill – he jump to the boat exactly from the place where couple made a romantic date. Try to imagine: quiet, lovely place, empty area – and suddenly: noisy boat with a little bit noisy peoples catching one person from cab and take him to the boat.
Saturday began very early… just about 6 AM (I spend some time after dinner for my LT session and other tasks). First morning smileys faces: Sandra, Inga, Annabel and Carmel. I had some tasks for this evend: general helping, taking some photos, marshalling and reception desk, room monitoring, short presentation at Lightening Talks and of course grabbing stuff. I’ve no idea how many delegates appeared in Hilton Hotel, but I saw over two hundred peoples and over TEN!!! Polish Persons – few living in UK or Ireland, but three who decided to go to SQL Saturday 105 directly from Poland. It was really nice surprise. I went for three interesting sessions:
Between sessions I spend lot of time for speaking, sharing knowledge, adopting new peoples for community and unfortunatelly working with one of my customer. My short Lightening Talk (conducted by most smiley man in the world, Mr. Marco Blasio) wasn’t bad, however I provide serious session – my participarts: Carmel, Kevin, Rob, Matt performed funniest and more freaky sessions – aspecially by Matt (about SSIS Facebook Tool), Rob (about unicode in naming – something for The Bastard DBA from Hell) and Carmel (about special poem for SQL). For this last check and read her post: Paradise Lost Advise Found
After all sessions, after coffe breaks, after collecting every available goodies, after all cookies and ice creams – YES we had a lot of Ice Creams delivered by one of the exhibitor – we meet in the patio on specific barbecue and raffles. Interesting books, iPads, vouchers, PASS Summit Entrance. I didn’t won anything, but two my collegues back to home with book (greetings for Krzysztof) and iPad (for Rodney). Really nice. After raffles – time for barbecue – for vegetiarians too. Again really, really nice. Next some beers, and special evening with “David Copperfield from Ireland” and celtic dances. Because my trip to Wales has been planned for early Sunday Morning, I back to hotel room about 11 PM. But some of my friends… at the morning… Special PhotoSynth from raffles (between sessions and barbecue) You can fing HERE
