[EN] SQL Relay Autumn Tour – Day Five

A series of short post about SQL Relay Autumn Tour in United Kingdom, where I speaking, networking, helping and doing more fun and business things. Fifth day in Newcastle. The full form – Newcastle upon Tyne. Somewhere up the north of England, just two (or something) hours to Edinbourgh. But this time we will not going to Scottland.  My trip tih time started in Leicester, where my fantastic private driver delivered me to the SQL Relay Fun Bus at Leicester Marriot Hotel carpark. This week our driver James has been replaced by Steve Powell (from Manchester area). Also as Alex Yates (from RedGate) promised we had few bottles of  Denormalizer Ale. And this time we had anoe of our sponsor with us – even he was very, very silent. Rest of group: Oz Locke and Steff (never, never change for Steph) Locke.

Our bus went somewhere, I went for my hostel, silent cheap and close to venue and next morning I have been on time on right place Strawbery Place. Futbol Stadium as always (‘cos I’m not a fan of futbol)… interesting but nothing special. I occupied one of the table in the DBATrack, soe we had two tracks and one of them was mine. A lot of coffee and cookies and a lot of work again – because when I came to Newcastle i didn’t have any SQL Instance on my machine. So again I spend few hour for installtions. But we had really great agenda here. Two separate keynotes – one for DBATrack by Anthony Saxby and second one for BITrack by Jon Woodward, and next sessions:

Keynote | Microsoft
Sponsor Sessions by Microsoft

DBA Track
Designing, Implementing SQL HADR on VM’s in Azure | Daniel Sol
Building an automated database deployment pipeline | Alex Yates
Uncovering the hidden gems in execution plans | Kevan Riley
Dave’s SQL Fun Time Hour | Dave Morrison

A look at 3 Big Data Tools | Allan Mitchell
BigData for SQL DBAs | Alessandro Recino
Testing, testing. Does this BI Solution work? | Steve Powell
Intro to R | Stephanie Locke

Intensive funny day, with a lot of work, talks and really great lunch. This week I had pleasure to give four licenses (one for each city) of one of my favourite ‘Windows Azure Oriented’ product: Azure Management Studio from Cerebrata. No time for anything else – we had chips, apple rings and beer on board, then after pasking off to Leeds.

[EN] Reminiscence Boulevard: SQL In The City {LONDON}

SQL In The City: London 2014 Edition. My fourth edition at all, my third edition as Friends of RedGate, my second edition as speaker but not speaking, finally my first edition where I meet members of Polish SQL Server User Group travelled from Wroclaw. Full day of fantastic technical training with too many sessions for right choose. Another great way for learn about RedGate products, software, ideas. Best place for meet RedGate’rs, Friends of RedGate (like Dave, Annettee, John, David, Alex and more) and best spekers from far, far away…  Agenda? Impressive!

Most important part of the keynote was official premiere of new RedGate tool, named SQLLightHouse – which is an special software for controlling not the Source Control but Schema and deployment stages. More info will be publish soon , and on my blog too.

IMG_8280Coffe – almost without limits, lunch – double sized, pep talks and gossips, technical talks and negotiations, training schedulind and demo requests. All of those things happened in London. Interesting raffle at the end – like KIndle Fire, NDC Conference free entrance, vouchers for internal RedGate’s training and Denormalizator at the end – this year Golden Ale brevered for RedGate. Pictures are on my Facebook site, more info you can find on twitter hashtag #sqlinthecity.

And if you missed SQL in the City this year, reserve date for next year (Autumn, somewhere in London) – or just jump for SQL in the Seattle (Nov, 3rd).
